The Hemp Farming Act of 2018

On March 26, 2018, Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell introduced a stand alone farming bill – The Hemp Farming Act of 2018. The Hemp Act of 2018 would remove industrial hemp from the federal government’s schedule of controlled substances.

Mitchell’s stand alone bill stipulates that “Hemp be legalized and removed from the Controlled Substances Act and also makes industrial hemp eligible for crop insurance.”

By removing Hemp from the federal government’s schedule of controlled substances act and allowing for crop insurance, farmer’s across America will be able to participate in this “New Green Rush” and reap the economic and financial rewards of growing hemp crops.

Senator McConnell’s office said, “The Hemp Farming Act of 2018… builds upon the success we have seen through the hemp pilot programs by allowing states to be the primary regulators of hemp (if the U.S. Department of Agriculture approves their implementation plan). This legislation will also remove the federal barriers in place that have stifled the industry, which will help expand the domestic production of hemp.”
